2018 Inductees
The 2018 Wall of Fame Awards Ceremony was held on December 10 in Saucon Valley High School’s Audion room. The recipients were Dr. Lillian Hinckley Bauder, Class of 1957 and Dr. Martha Reid, Class of 1964.
The Student Council assisted with welcoming guests and the high school choir opened the ceremony with our National Anthem and with the high school alma mater. President, Ken Bloss, provided opening remarks, introducing Ron Reichard, Chairman of the event. Dr. Craig Butler, Superintendent, gave closing remarks. The school provided refreshments prior to and following the ceremony. The Saucon Valley Alumni Association is grateful to the Saucon Valley School District for all of their assistance with this event.

Community Contributions
Following her graduation from Hellertown High School in 1957, Dr. Bauder earned a B.A. in sociology from Douglass College in New Brunswick, New Jersey. She continued her education and received an M.A. (1966) and a Ph.D. (1973) in Sociology from the University of Michigan. As a student, Dr. Bauder achieved numerous scholastic honors including the Woodrow Wilson Fellowship (1961), admission to Phi Beta Kappa (1961), Alpha Kappa Delta (1967), and Phi Kappa Phi (1967).
Dr. Bauder began her career at Macomb County Community College as an Associate Professor of Sociology. Two years later, she left the College to join the Department of Sociology and Social Work at the University of Detroit (U of D). Dr. Bauder was named Acting Chair of the Department in 1970, Associate Chair in 1975, and Department Chair in 1976. In addition to serving as an administrator at the University of Detroit, Dr. Bauder was an Associate Professor of Sociology from 1977 to 1982. In 1982, she was named Dean of the U of D College of Liberal Arts.
In February 1983, Dr. Bauder joined the Cranbrook Educational Community (CEC) as Director of Schools. In 1984 she was named CEC’s Executive Vice President and CEC’s Acting President. In October, 1984, Dr. Bauder was appointed CEC President and Chief Executive Officer. In addition to the presidency, Dr. Bauder held many other CEC positions including Acting Vice President for Development and Public Relations (1984-1986, 1989), Acting Vice President for Finance and Administration (1985), Acting Director of Schools (1987, 1990), and Acting Director of Public Relations (1989). In tribute to her dedication and contributions to Cranbrook. Dr. Bauder was unanimously elected President Emeritus, the only time that honor has been conferred in Cranbrook’s history.
Dr. Bauder began a new career in 1996 at Masco Corporation, where she was appointed Vice President for Corporate Affairs and President of the Masco Charitable Trust. Prior to her retirement from Masco Corporation in 2007, she served in various positions, including Vice President of Corporate Affairs from 1996 to 2006 and Chairman and President of the Masco Corporation Foundation during this same time period. From 2001 to 2006, she led Masco's global strategy.
Among her many accomplishments, Crain’s Detroit Business selected her as one of Detroit’s most influential women. Dr. Bauder has lectured and consulted locally and nationally on leadership, organizational change, cultural and architectural issues. After 29 years of service, Dr. Bauder retired from the Board of Directors at DTE Energy Company in May, 2015, where she had been Presiding Director. Dr. Bauder also served on the Board of Directors of Comerica, Inc. from which she retired in 2010 after serving for 24 years. She was also a trustee on The Skillman Foundation board for 25 years, retiring in 2015. During her tenure, she chaired the board for four years. While she lived in Michigan, Dr. Bauder was a Trustee of The Henry Ford Health System, having served as Board Chair of the HFHS’s West Bloomfield Board of Trustees. She was a trustee for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra where she served on the executive committee. She served on the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA) and received the Michigan Museum Association’s President’s Award for Lifetime Leadership in 2004. Dr. Bauder is a Director Emeritus of the Detroit Institute of Arts’ Board of Trustees. She was a trustee on Habit for Humanity’s International Board, as well as serving as trustee for the Jacob and Gwendolyn Lawrence Foundation. She was The University of Michigan’s alumna-in-residence and chaired the Detroit Festival of the Arts for four years.
Lillian Bauder resides in Columbia, Maryland. She continues to be asked to serve on boards, teach, consult, and give lectures. She is currently a trustee on the Baltimore Community Foundation board.
2018 Inductee - Dr. Martha Reid, Class of 1964
Education
Dr. Martha Reid is a Professor of English, Emerita, at Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA. She has served at Moravian College as Continuing Studies Coordinator for Adult Student Services, Assistant Dean of the College, Associate Dean of the College, Dean for Academic Affairs, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dean of the College, and interim President.
Following her graduation from Hellertown Lower-Saucon High School in 1964, Dr. Reid received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, graduating Magna Cum Laude, and a Master of Arts in Teaching in Secondary English from Harvard University. She also earned a Master of Arts degree and a Ph.D. degree in English from Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts. The Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa, awarded her an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree in 2014.
Prior to her career at Moravian College, Dr. Reid taught English at Tufts University, the College of William and Mary, Cedar Crest College, and St. Francis de Sales. She also taught English at the high school level.
Dr. Reid is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and several honorary societies: Alpha Psi Omega (theatre), Alpha Sigma Lambda (continuing education), Omicron Delta Kappa (leadership), and Kappa Delta Pi (education).
Dr. Reid currently resides in Lower Saucon Township.
