2016 Inductees to the Wall of Fame

The 2016 Wall Of Fame Award recipients were Monroe Fabian, Carl Manone and Stanley (Bud) Prosser.  The Awards Ceremony was held on November 16, 2016, in the high school auditorium.  The presentation was well attended and very successful.  Student Council students assisted with welcoming guests, the 4th Grade Chorus performed, and the high school Chamber Choir performed.  The school provided refreshments prior to the ceremony and lunch following the ceremony for all attendees. 

2016 Inductee - Monroe H. Fabian, Class of 1953

PA Dutch Historian

  • A graduate of the School of Fine Arts of the University of Pennsylvania, Monroe Fabian was a curator at the National Portrait Gallery of the Smithsonian Institute for 20 years before retiring.
  • While at the gallery, he worked on major shows of such artists as Thomas Sully and Joseph Wright.
  • An authority in the field of Pennsylvania-German Decorative Arts, Fabian wrote a book entitled "The Pennsylvania-German Decorated Chest" published in 1978 by Main Street Press.
  • An article in the December 20, 1972 issue of The Morning Call described how Fabian researched and identified Johannes or John Spangenberg as the Pennsylvania German fraktur artist known for years only as "The Easton Bible Artist."
  • Born in Hellertown, Fabian was a son of Eva V. Fabian of Quakertown and the late Paul H. Fabian.  
  • He was a Navy veteran.

2016 Inductee - Dr. Carl J. Manone, Class of 1941

Educator and Humanitarian

 

  • Dr. Carl J. Manone was a 1941 graduate of Hellertown High School where he served as class president, yearbook editor and league-leading scorer for Hellertown's first Lehigh-Northampton Basketball League Championship in 1941.  In 1992 he was inducted into the Saucon Valley Sports Hall of Fame.  He was a PIAA basketball official; also organizer-player-coach for the local semi-professional basketball team, the Hellertown Steelers, a member of the Penn-Jersey League.  He was elected to the All-Star team 5 consecutive years.  
  • In 1947 he received a BA, with Honors, in Political Science and an MA a year later, both from Lehigh University,  In 1957 he was awarded a doctors degree by Teachers College, Columbia University.  He was elected to 4 national educational and social science honorary fraternities and he was named to The National Register of Prominent Americans.
  • In 1963, Dr. Manone was granted a fellowship by the Charles Kettering Foundation for a Summer Institute in the Humanities at Bennington College.  In 1964, he participated in the Advanced Administrative Institute at Harvard University.  In 1964 and 1965 he taught in the graduate school at the University of Pennsylvania.  He was listed in Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the East, the Dictionary of African Biography and the Dictionary of International Biography.  In 1981, he was given the Outstanding Educator Award by the Bucks County Supervision and Curriculum Association.
  • He published numerous professional articles and research studies, was editor of the Association of Teacher Education in Africa Report from 1967 to 1971 and served as speaker/consultant for dozens of universities and conferences both in the U.S. and internationally.  
  • He served as past president of the Hellertown Alumni Association, the Souderton School District Education Association and the St. Theresa's Holy Name Society.

  • His 36 years in the field of education included work in curriculum and guidance in Souderton, PA and Kennett Square, PA followed by serving as Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent in the Abington Township Public Schools.   In 1993 and 1995 he served as Interim Superintendent and Strategic Planning Consultant for the Saucon Valley School District.  From 1981 to 1986 he was the Vice President and a National Association of Securities Dealers registed Rep at William L. Marshall Financial Group, Doyelstown, PA.  He also served as a board member on the Pearl S. Buck International Foundation.
  • In 1991, he served on a Blue Ribbon Commission to evaluate the Hellertown Police Department.  
  • From 1966 to 1971 he was the Director for the Teacher Education in East Africa Project (TEEA) which included Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia.  He was an Adjunct Professor of Education at Teachers College, Columbia University, which served as the administrator for the TEEA Prject which was the worlds largest international technical assistance program in education at that time.  He then served for 3 years as Senior Education Advisor to the U.S. and Royal Thai governments in Bangkok, Thailand.  During the 6 years in which Dr. Manone served as Chief of Party in East Africa, the TEEA program played a major role in training 20,000 East African teachers and over 100 tutors for the teacher training colleges.  Subsequently, these individuals reached out to teach hundreds of thousands of young African primary and secondary students scattered in both the urban and remotest rural areas of Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia.  Beyond this, the TEEA program played a critical role in introducing curricular innovations and methodologies, Africanizing course syllabli, organizing in-service programs and promting non-formal community adult education programs.  One of Africas most renowned educators and statesmen had this to say about the TEEA Program:  Teachers may come and may go, but the years that TEEA was here can be called the golden age of our educational development.  
  • During WWII (1943-1945) First Lieutenant Manone flew 35 combat missions without an abort in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations as a B-29 Lead Bombardier.  He compiled one of the top bombing accuracy records in the 20th Air Force in the war against Japan.  He received 3 Distinguished Flying Crosses (with cluster), the Air Medal (with 3 clusters), the Presidential Unit Citation (with Cluster), and the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal (with 4 battle stars).  
  • In 2001, in collaborative effort with the Vanguard Charitable Endowment Program, he was instrumental in designing a tax exemption breakthrough for Americans interested in contributing to international educational and charitable institutions.
  • He was a member of St. Frances de Chantal Catholic Church in Palmer, the American Legion, The Veterans of Foreign Wars, and numerous educational organizations.  He was also a member of the Silver Creek Country Club, Hellertown.
  • Dr. Monone passed away at the age of 88 on March 14, 2012.

2016 Inductee - Stanley (Bud) Prosser, Class of 1954

Community Involvement

  •  Bud Prosser was the first President of the Hellertown Jaycees and was the organizer of the successful Sidewalk Sales in Hellertown, which later evolved into theannual Hellertown-Lower Saucon Community Day celebration.
  • Bud served as a Board Member and President of SauconFest, was the first President of the Hellertown Historical Society and heaaded the committee responsible for Hellerown's Centennial Celebration in 1972.
  • He has devoted countless hours to activities in the Saucon Valley community:  as an umpire at baseball games, an emcee at numerous local events and as a weekly columnist in the Valley Voice newspaper.

  • Bud has been active with the Mountainview Moravian Church over the years serving as a trustee elder and youth director and starting the church's Annual Christmas Putz display.
  • he has kept up this devotion to the Saucon Vlley community with his current service on the Board of the Hellertown-Lower Saucon Chamber of Commerce; with the annual Community Day, where his Cemetery Tours are a highlight of the celebration, and with the Saucon Valley Farmers' Market.
  • Bud Prosser has earned the title "Mr. Saucon Valley" and Lower Saucon Township is justifiably proud that one of our residents will be recognized for this outstanding service by the the Saucon Valley Community Center on June 4, 2010.
